For me, summer starts to die on August 1st.
I know, I know. How dare I look forward to the end of everyone’s favorite season, let alone speed up the process in my mind?
Perhaps it has something to do with my birthday falling on the day before the autumn equinox (I was literally born as summer dies) or my obsession with all things dark and spooky. It could have to do with the kids going back to school, the harvest season, or all the nesting vibes around me. Whatever the reason, I’m ready to pack away my beachy goth gear and make way for all things fall.
This includes returning to the Quill & Crow office (hopefully) rejuvenated. We have some fantastic, thought-provoking debuts coming this fall that I’m finishing up the production on. I’ve also been writing like a maniac—I’m excited to announce that I will release a short horror story collection this November. My intention is not to promote it as widely as I do a typical Q&C publication (I can’t handle author stress on top of publisher stress), and will probably do a single print-run “special release” for those interested. Subscribers to my Substack will be receiving special goodies, of course.
I’m also finishing up my latest book, a historical horror/spec fic piece titled “Welcome to Meadowbrook,” which I plan on debuting right here on Substack. It’s the first time I've attempted to structure a book this way, so I'm really excited to see how it will all turn out. Subscribers will receive one chapter at a time until the book’s completion, along with future book discounts. What is the story about, you ask? I’m keeping it properly shrouded in mystery since it is a mysterious story, but I’ll give you a hint: think ghosts and old hotels.
I’ve also restarted my candle business from the pre-publishing days, so look for brand new, autumn-inspired candles making their way into The Crow Shoppe.
Phew! I’m tired just thinking about all this. Thanks for listening to the ramble.
This all sounds amazing! A new book and collection! I'm glad you're making time to write and make fun things like candles, too 🖤
