Thanks! Don’t forget Mastodon. There are all sorts of authors and publishers on there, and a lively, supportive writing community. You can find me there at https://c.im/@Shanmonster . Some writers are also still blogging at Dreamwidth, including Martha Wells, author of the Murderbot books. I’m there, too: http://shanmonster.Dreamwidth.org
I love this! Thank you! I just don’t have the energy to be a “content creator.” I’ve been developing my TikTok account primarily, slowly but surely. I have been struggling with content because I haven’t had anything for readers to take action on. However, when I do sneak into reader spaces a little bit beta read requests or my sky attempt at the TikTok version of ‘also likes’ with books I read and loved, those posts have been successful in getting that attention. I’m on the verge of creating a new account for the spicy stuff I write (since the Donna Taylor stuff will be YA/non-spicy), it will be reader focused only. I’m still trying to manage my way through it so we’ll see!
I thought about YouTube, but quickly realized producing videos is not a skill I care to have take up my time to learn. TikTok ended up being a good go-between.
Great article! Looking forward to the next one. I'm also new to Threads and totally agree with how chill and friendly it is in there. I got on BlueSky for a week and cross-posted all my stuff there but got zero traction so I gave up on it. I think the problem is I wasn't engaging as much with other accounts as I should have been. It's just so hard to spread yourself thin like that. (I don't know how you do it.) I like posting to IG but don't get a whole lot of interaction there. I want Substack to work for me. I'm still new here, too. Notes is great but it's all Substack related it seems. You don't post random shit here like you do on Twitter, and random is where I excel. TikTok, yeah, I don't have time for that. You're doing great stuff, Cass. Thanks for the read!
Haha yay! Yeah, it’s getting pretty overwhelming out here. I don’t have all the answers, but I figured sharing my experience might be helpful for some ☺️
My interest in substack and medium is gaining a wider audience. Are there any fiction writers here who have had a noticeable boost in sales after writing for either platform?

It is so exhausting! Glad you’re discovering things that work for you 🙌🏽

Same! It’s definitely a lot more laid back.
I’m: completely out of the loop with the whole WritingCommunity thing on Twitter, but I keep seeing side-eye mentioned of it. What happened there?

It really is so hard. Thank you for reading!
Great post, Cass (and yes, I got the Writing Commmunity joke😆). I need to slim down my SM very soon, so this was useful.
